Pet-friendly cabins at Lake Tahoe: our policy
The short answer: none of our homes currently accepts pets. We'd rather tell you here than at the front door.
Our pet policy
Our homes are pet-free, and every home's page says the same. It also means the next guest, including one with allergies, walks into a home no animal has stayed in.
Planning Tahoe with a dog anyway
If the dog is coming, you'll need a home that takes pets from another host. Once you're here, this is where dogs can and can't go on the North and West Shore, the part of the lake we know best.
Beaches that take dogs
| Where | Town | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Coon Street dog beach | Kings Beach | East of the boat launch only; rocky at the waterline |
| Tahoe Unleashed dog park, North Tahoe Regional Park | Tahoe Vista | Fenced, off-leash; separate small- and large-dog areas |
| Carnelian West Beach | Carnelian Bay | Leashed dogs |
| 64 Acres | Tahoe City | Leashed dogs (National Forest land) |
| Kaspian picnic area | West Shore | Leashed dogs, cobbled shoreline |
| Sand Harbor | Incline Village (NV) | Oct 16 – Apr 14 only, on a 6 ft leash; no pets Apr 15 – Oct 15 |
Where dogs aren't allowed
- Designated swimming beaches, including the Kings Beach State Recreation Area beach.
- D.L. Bliss and Sugar Pine Point state parks (beaches and trails) and Emerald Bay (beaches, trails and roads).
- Sand Harbor in summer (April 15 to October 15).
Trails
- Tahoe Rim Trail: dogs are allowed on every section. Keep them leashed around other hikers, at trailheads and on steep or icy ground; each stretch follows the rules of the agency that manages it.
- State parks are usually stricter than National Forest land, so check the specific trailhead before you drive.
Seasons
- Summer: the dog-friendly beaches fill up early on weekends, and trailhead parking goes before 9 am in July and August.
- Winter: road salt and ice are hard on paws, and snowbanks hide traffic on narrow roads.
- Rules change: confirm with the agency that runs each beach or park before you go.
Leaving the dog at home?
Book your dog's sitter or kennel early for July, August and holiday weekends, when Tahoe-area boarding fills first. Then search our homes by date: every one of them is pet-free, which matters if anyone in your group has allergies.
Without the dog
If your dog stays home this time, every one of our homes is open to you, with live prices below the same homes on Airbnb: cabins with a hot tub, lake-view homes and homes in Kings Beach, Tahoe City and Incline Village. Questions? Call (530) 317-0291.
Rules checked October 1, 2026 with Nevada State Parks, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and the Lake Tahoe Water Trail.
Questions
Do any MG homes allow dogs?
Not at the moment. None of our homes accepts pets. If that changes for a home, its page will say so first.
What about service animals?
Call us at (530) 317-0291 before you book and we'll talk it through for the specific home.
Can I bring my dog to Lake Tahoe beaches?
Some, not most. On the North Shore the dog beach at Coon Street in Kings Beach (east of the boat launch) and the Tahoe Unleashed dog park at North Tahoe Regional Park are the easy ones; on the West Shore, 64 Acres and Kaspian take leashed dogs. Designated swimming beaches, D.L. Bliss, Sugar Pine Point and Emerald Bay don't.
Are dogs allowed at Sand Harbor?
Only from October 16 to April 14, on a leash of six feet or less. From April 15 to October 15 pets are not allowed at Sand Harbor at all.
Are dogs allowed on the Tahoe Rim Trail?
Yes, on every section, but the Tahoe Rim Trail Association asks that they be leashed around other hikers, at trailheads and on steep or slippery ground, and rules vary with the agency that manages each stretch.
Why don't MG homes take pets?
Our homes are kept pet-free, which also matters to guests with allergies. If that changes for a home, its page will say so first.
