- Private or shared shore? "Lakefront" can mean a private beach, a shared HOA beach or pier, or a home across the road from the water. Ask which.
- Pier or buoy? Ask whether it is the home's own or shared with an association, and whether boats can tie up and in which months.
- Steps to the water Many shoreline lots are steep. Ask how many stairs there are if anyone in the group has trouble with them.
- Lake level In a dry year the water can sit well back from a pier or beach by late summer.
