Who flies helicopter tours over Lake Tahoe in 2026, where they take off (South Lake Tahoe or Truckee), what each costs, plus scenic plane and glider options.
Two helicopter companies fly scenic tours over Lake Tahoe in 2026. Tahoe Helicopters takes off from Lake Tahoe Airport in South Lake Tahoe, with flights from 10 minutes to an hour. Beryl West Adventures takes off from Truckee Tahoe Airport, the closer airport if you're staying on the North Shore. If you'd rather fly in a plane or a glider, two more operators fly from Truckee. This guide covers who flies, where each one leaves from, what the flights cost, and how to choose.
We took every price below from the operator's own website on September 30, 2026. Booking sites and older articles quote different numbers, some of them years out of date. Prices change, so check the operator's site before you book.

Tahoe Helicopters (South Lake Tahoe)
Tahoe Helicopters is based on the main floor of the terminal at Lake Tahoe Airport (KTVL), 1901 Lisa Maloff Way in South Lake Tahoe. It says it flies daily, year-round. The aircraft is a Robinson R44, which seats three passengers plus the pilot. Groups bigger than three fly back-to-back.
From the North Shore, the airport is about an hour's drive: roughly 30 miles from Incline Village along the East Shore, or about 50 minutes from Tahoe City along the West Shore past Emerald Bay, when the road is open and traffic is light.
Tours and prices
All prices are per person with a two-person minimum, from the company's tours page on September 30, 2026.
| Tour | Length | Price per person | What you see |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emerald Bay | 10 min | $120 | Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lake, Taylor Creek, Pope Beach, Emerald Bay |
| Zephyr Cove | 20 min | $180 | The whole South Shore, up the Nevada side to Zephyr Cove, then west to Emerald Bay |
| Sand Harbor | 30 min | $300 | East Shore coves (Glenbrook, Secret Harbor, Skunk Harbor, Chimney Beach), Sand Harbor, Marlette Lake |
| Lakes and Waterfalls | 30 min | $300 | The high country west of the lake; often rerouted to the Sand Harbor tour because of turbulence |
| Circle the Lake | 45 min | $420 | The full 72-mile shoreline, starting at Emerald Bay |
| Lake Tahoe Sunset | 1 hr | $600 | The lake at sunset |
Rules
- Weight: passengers weighing 300 pounds or more can't fly because of the aircraft's limits. Groups with a combined weight of 550 pounds or more are weighed at check-in, and a flight cancelled for weight is charged in full.
- Kids: welcome on every tour. Under-2s ride free on a lap (per FAA rules), children 2 and older need their own seat, and children's ear protection is available.
- Check-in: arrive 5–10 minutes early for a safety briefing. South Lake Tahoe traffic can be slow in summer, so leave time.
Beryl West Adventures (Truckee)
Beryl West Adventures flies helicopter tours from Truckee Tahoe Airport (KTRK), and it's on the airport's own list of on-field operators. For North Shore guests it's the convenient choice: the airport is about 15 minutes from Kings Beach and about half an hour from Incline Village or Tahoe City. The helicopter carries up to five passengers, and the company says its pilots have at least 1,500 hours of flight time.

Scenic plane and glider flights from Truckee
If you searched for a "scenic airplane ride" over Lake Tahoe, or you want something quieter than a helicopter, two other operators fly from Truckee Tahoe Airport.
North Tahoe Aviation (airplane)
North Tahoe Aviation flies private scenic flights in a classic Cessna 180, a high-wing plane with a clear view down. Prices are flat per flight, not per person, which makes it good value for two or three people. On September 30, 2026, its site listed:
- The Donner Summit Flight: about 20 minutes, $350
- The North Shore Flight: about 30 minutes, $475 (Sand Harbor, Incline Village, Palisades Tahoe, Donner Summit)
- The Sunset Flight: about 30 minutes, $475
- The Lake Tahoe Flight: about 55 minutes, $675 (Emerald Bay, Mt. Tallac, Sand Harbor, Incline Village and more)
Soar Truckee (glider)
Soar Truckee gives scenic glider rides: towed up, released, and then flown in near-silence on the mountain air. On September 30, 2026, its site listed:
- Martis View: about 15–20 minutes, $235 for one passenger or $285 for two
- Tahoe Vista: about 20–30 minutes, $310 for one or $365 for two
- Sierra Vista: 30–40 minutes, $375 for one or $430 for two
Weight limits apply and depend on the aircraft and pilot. Gliders need the right conditions, so ask about the season and the best time of day when you book.
Operators we couldn't confirm for 2026
Older articles, including an earlier version of this page, name other companies. We couldn't confirm these were flying Lake Tahoe tours in 2026, so we've left them out of the table:
- HeliTahoe (Pacific North Helicopters) used to fly from Truckee and South Lake Tahoe. On September 30, 2026, its website wasn't working, and it isn't on Truckee Tahoe Airport's list of operators.
- Sierra Air once offered tours from Truckee. The Sierra Air Helicopters now advertising tours is based in Auburn and flies Gold Country routes, not Lake Tahoe.
Booking sites such as Viator also resell Tahoe flights, sometimes at prices that don't match the operator's. We'd book with the operator directly so you know who's flying and what the cancellation terms are.
What you'll see from the air
- Emerald Bay and Fannette Island. The lake's only true bay, and the best-known view in Tahoe. Every Tahoe Helicopters tour and the full-lake loops from Truckee include it. See our Emerald Bay State Park guide for visiting on the ground.
- The East Shore coves. Sand Harbor, Chimney Beach and Secret Harbor, with the boulders visible through the clear water. Our Sand Harbor and Chimney Beach guides cover them on foot.
- Marlette Lake. A lake high on the ridge above the East Shore at about 7,840 feet, rarely seen except from a long hike or the air.
- The North Shore towns. Crystal Bay, Incline Village and Kings Beach, where most of our homes are.
- The West Shore and Olympic Valley. Meeks Bay, Tahoe City and the Palisades Tahoe ski terrain, on the Truckee West Shore tours.
- Fallen Leaf Lake and Desolation Wilderness. Glacier-carved lakes and granite peaks southwest of the lake, on the South Lake Tahoe flights.
Is a Lake Tahoe helicopter tour worth it?
It depends on the flight. The 10-minute Emerald Bay hop from South Lake Tahoe ($120 per person) is the cheapest way into the air, but it only shows you the south end, and if you're staying on the North Shore you'll drive an hour each way for it. The full-lake loops (45 minutes) are where a flight really earns its price: you see the whole 72-mile shoreline, both states, and how big the lake is, which you can't get from any road or boat.
For two people staying on the North Shore, compare Beryl West's East Shore flight with North Tahoe Aviation's flat-rate plane flights from the same airport. For a group of three in South Lake, Tahoe Helicopters' per-person pricing is easy to work out. Either way, it's a splurge. Save it for a clear day, and book a slot early in the morning or at sunset, when the light is best.
Tips for booking
- Pick your airport first. From Incline Village, Kings Beach or Tahoe City, Truckee is 15–30 minutes away and South Lake Tahoe is about an hour.
- Book mornings for calm air. Afternoon wind over the mountains makes flights bumpier and can reroute them. Tahoe Helicopters says its Lakes and Waterfalls route is often switched for this reason.
- Be honest about weight. Both helicopter operators balance the aircraft by passenger weight, and a flight refused for weight can be charged in full.
- Wear dark clothes. Light colors reflect in the windows and spoil photos.
- Keep dates flexible. Weather cancels flights. Ask about the cancellation and rescheduling policy before you pay.
- Book ahead in summer and on holiday weekends, especially for sunset flights.
Where to stay
For flights from Truckee Tahoe Airport, our homes in Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista and Carnelian Bay are 15–25 minutes away, and Incline Village and Tahoe City about half an hour. We don't have homes in South Lake Tahoe. If you want to fly with Tahoe Helicopters, it's about an hour's drive around the lake from our homes. Check which homes are free for your dates.

Booking direct costs less. Our nightly prices on Airbnb are set 28% higher than on our own site, and on Vrbo 17% higher, and every home page shows the dollar saving for your dates. Our booking direct vs. Airbnb guide explains why. If you have questions, contact us or call (530) 317-0291.
