North Lake Tahoe Nightlife
Updated October 1, 2026 · 13 min read

North Lake Tahoe nightlife centers on the Crystal Bay Casino's Crown Room, Tahoe City's late bars and Palisades après. Cal Neva and the Biltmore are still closed in 2026.
The short answer: North Lake Tahoe nightlife is small, spread out and seasonal. The one real night out is the Crystal Bay Casino on the Nevada state line, where the Crown Room books touring bands most weekends and the smaller Red Room takes the overflow. Beyond that, you have a few good bars in Tahoe City (Pete 'n Peter's is open latest), a brewpub and a tavern in Incline Village, lakeside drinks at Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay and Jason's in Kings Beach, and in ski season the après bars in the Palisades Tahoe village. Two names you will see in older guides, the Cal Neva and the Tahoe Biltmore, are both closed in 2026.
We manage homes in Kings Beach, Crystal Bay, Incline Village, Carnelian Bay and Tahoe City, so this is the list we give our own guests when they ask what to do after dinner. We checked every address, phone number and posted hour below against the business's own website, or a dated 2025–2026 news report, on October 1, 2026. Fall hours shrink, so call before you drive.

Crystal Bay: the casino strip on the state line
Crystal Bay sits where Highway 28 crosses from California into Nevada, a short drive east of Kings Beach. Of its three big casino names, only one is open in 2026, and it carries the whole scene.
1. Crystal Bay Casino (Crown Room and Red Room)
The Crystal Bay Casino, still called the Crystal Bay Club by many locals, is in a building that dates to 1937. Its main concert hall, the Crown Room, was a bowling alley in the early 1940s and still shows the original beams. The current owners rebuilt the property after buying it out of bankruptcy in 2002, and the first Crown Room concert was Edgar Winter in late December 2004. It is now the North Shore's main stage for jam bands, bluegrass, funk and electronic acts. The smaller Red Room hosts lower-key gigs and after-parties.
- Address: 14 State Highway 28, Crystal Bay, NV 89402
- Phone: (775) 833-6333
- Shows: mostly at 8 pm with doors at 7 pm. Most Crown Room shows are standing room only; a few comedy and seated shows are marked "seated." Every show listed is 21 and over.
- Fall 2026 calendar: the casino's events page lists shows most Friday and Saturday nights from October through New Year's Eve, including Steep Canyon Rangers on October 17, the Wooten Brothers (seated) in December, and a New Year's Eve show. Tickets sell through Tixr, linked from crystalbaycasino.com.
- Also here: The Steak & Lobster House restaurant (reservations on the casino's website) and the Border House hotel.
From our Livin' on the Edge home in Crystal Bay, the casino is under a mile away. From Kings Beach it is a few minutes' drive.
Cal Neva: still closed
The Cal Neva Resort, the lodge that straddles the state line and is famous for its Frank Sinatra years, has been closed since 2013. Developer McWhinney bought it in April 2023 and had hoped to reopen for its 100th anniversary in December 2026. In August 2025 the company told the Tahoe Daily Tribune that the opening has moved to 2027, with no month set. For now there is nothing to visit.
Tahoe Biltmore: closed, site in limbo
The Tahoe Biltmore Lodge & Casino closed on April 30, 2022, to make way for a planned Waldorf Astoria resort. The cottages came down in 2023, but the main building still stands, boarded up. After the developer defaulted on its loan, the site was sold at a foreclosure auction on July 15, 2025, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune. No reopening date exists.
Incline Village bars
Incline Village is quieter at night than its size suggests. Most bars close by 9 or 10 pm. The resort that used to anchor its night scene, the Hyatt Regency, closed its lakefront Lone Eagle Grille in early 2025 for renovation, as reported by Hotel Online. We could not confirm the resort's current bar and casino hours on its own website, so call the resort before you go.

Kings Beach is a beach town more than a bar town: dinner on a deck, a drink by the water, an early night. The beach itself is dry: California State Parks does not allow alcohol at Kings Beach State Recreation Area, which is open 6 am to 9 pm.
9. Gar Woods Grill & Pier
Gar Woods sits on the water in Carnelian Bay, between Kings Beach and Tahoe City, with a big deck under umbrellas and a public pier. Its signature drink is the Wet Woody, a frozen rum drink, and boaters can tie up at its pier.

- Fall (now through mid-December): the quietest stretch. Cruises wind down in October, the Palisades bars are closed until the ski season, and patios close in November. The Crystal Bay Casino keeps a full show calendar, and the Tahoe City bars stay open.
- Winter (late November to April): après takes over. Le Chamois, the KT Base Bar and the Auld Dubliner are at their busiest, and full moon snowshoe tours run once a month. See our Lake Tahoe in winter guide and Incline Village in winter.

Rules worth knowing
- Casinos are 21+. Under Nevada law (NRS 463.350), anyone under 21 may not gamble or loiter where gaming is conducted. That includes the gaming bar at places like Crosby's.
- No drinks on Kings Beach. Kings Beach State Recreation Area bans alcohol and closes at 9 pm.
- Don't drive after drinking. Highway 28 is dark and can be icy. Plan a ride home first.
- Quiet hours at rentals. In eastern Placer County, which covers Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay and Tahoe City, short-term rental quiet hours are 9 pm to 8 am, and no outdoor amplified sound is allowed at any time (Placer County Good Neighbor flyer). In Washoe County, which covers Incline Village and Crystal Bay, quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am (Washoe County STR guide). Fines go to the owner and can be passed on to guests. Move indoors by quiet hours; see our hot tub etiquette guide.
Where to stay for a night out
If the Crown Room is your plan, stay in Crystal Bay or Kings Beach so the ride home is short. Livin' on the Edge in Crystal Bay is under a mile from the casino and has a hot tub. In Kings Beach, Lakeside Luxe Retreat is our only lakefront home, and Lakeview Serenity Cottage has a hot tub. For the Tahoe City bars and Palisades après, look at Mammoth Haven Retreat (sleeps 9, hot tub) or Trailside Tahoe Townhouse in Tahoe City. For a group, see our large-group rentals or all MG homes.

If you book on our own site instead of Airbnb, you pay less for the same house. Our nightly prices on Airbnb are set 28% higher than on our own site (17% higher on Vrbo), and every home page shows the dollar saving for your dates. The details are in booking direct vs. Airbnb at Lake Tahoe. Questions about a specific home? Call us at (530) 317-0291 or use the contact page.
