North Lake Tahoe Bike Rentals
Updated October 1, 2026 · 13 min read

Rent bikes in Tahoe City (Olympic Bike Shop, eBike Tahoe, evo), Incline Village (Vista Trail Bikes, Flume Trail Bikes) or Kings Beach (Tahoe eBikes delivers).
The short answer: For the paved lakeside trails, rent in Tahoe City. Olympic Bike Shop, BlueZone Sports, evo and eBike Tahoe are all on North Lake Blvd within a few blocks of the trailheads for the West Shore, Truckee River and North Shore paths. In Incline Village, Vista Trail Bikes and Flume Trail Bikes put you on the Tahoe East Shore Trail to Sand Harbor, and Flume Trail Bikes also runs the shuttle for the Flume Trail. In Kings Beach, Tahoe eBikes rents e-cruisers and electric mountain bikes and says it can deliver to your house. A full day on a cruiser costs about $40 to $85, and an e-bike about $80 to $120, at posted 2026 prices. If you are coming in October or November, call first: summer stands have closed, hours are shorter, and the Northstar bike park is done for the year.
We manage 41 vacation homes on the North and West Shores, from Tahoe City and Homewood to Kings Beach and Incline Village, and bikes are one of the first things our guests ask about. We checked every shop below against its own website on October 1, 2026. Prices are posted 2026 rates and change every season.

Cyclepaths, 10825 Pioneer Trail, Suite 105, (530) 582-1890, posts Class 2 e-cruisers and full-suspension bikes at $89 a day and a Class 1 e-MTB at $109 (cyclepaths.com).
Northstar bike park
Northstar's lift-served downhill bike park opened for 2026 on June 12, according to the Sierra Sun, with lifts running 10 am–5 pm Thursday to Sunday and more than 50 miles of trails. The 2026 schedule ran through September 27. Its hours page now says it is closed for the summer season. If you are visiting in October, the bike park is not an option. Northstar's target for ski season opening is November 20, 2026. Rent downhill bikes at the resort; some shops ban their rentals from bike parks.
Where to ride
Truckee River trail: Tahoe City to Olympic Valley
This is the classic family ride. The paved path follows the Truckee River from Tahoe City for about 7 miles to Olympic Valley and Palisades Tahoe, according to Palisades Tahoe. It is mostly flat, and you can turn around whenever the kids tire. In summer you share the river with rafters; see our Truckee River rafting guide.
West Shore Trail: Tahoe City to Sugar Pine Point
The West Shore Trail runs south from Tahoe City past Sunnyside and through Homewood to Sugar Pine Point State Park. Placer County describes it as a 10-mile Class 1 trail. Beaches along the way make good stops, including Chambers Landing. Past Sugar Pine Point, a newer section continues toward Meeks Bay.
2026 construction: TCPUD is rebuilding about 1.4 miles of the trail between 64-Acres Park and Sunnyside. During construction it has closed that stretch Monday to Thursday, with a detour on neighborhood streets including Sequoia Avenue. Its project page said on September 14 that work was in the final stretch for the season. Check TCPUD's trail status before a weekday ride.
North Shore Trail: Tahoe City to Dollar Point and beyond
TCPUD's North Shore Trail runs east from Tahoe City toward Dollar Point. From there, Placer County's Dollar Creek Shared-Use Trail adds 2.2 paved miles, 10 feet wide, from Dollar Drive at Highway 28 to the end of Fulton Crescent Drive.
Farther east, Placer County is building the first segment of the North Tahoe Trail, about 2.5 paved miles from North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista to Carnelian Bay. The county and the regional project tracker list completion in 2026, but we could not confirm it is open, so don't plan a Kings Beach to Tahoe City ride on it yet.
Tahoe East Shore Trail: Incline Village to Sand Harbor
Just under 3 miles each way, paved, 10 feet wide and right on the water. Trailhead parking is limited and paid, so renting from a shop with its own parking (Vista Trail Bikes, Flume Trail Bikes) helps. Sand Harbor charges a $2 bike-in fee. Our East Shore Trail guide covers parking, the summer shuttle, dogs and winter.
Incline Village bike paths
Washoe County maintains paved bike paths along Lakeshore Blvd and Village Blvd in Incline Village. They run beside the road and link town to the East Shore Trail.
The Flume Trail
The Flume Trail is a mountain bike ride, not a cruiser ride. Flume Trail Bikes describes it as a moderately difficult one-way ride of 14 miles between about 7,000 and 8,100 feet: more than 1,000 feet of climbing in the first four miles from Spooner Lake, 4.5 miles of singletrack high above the lake, then a steep descent of about 1,500 feet to Tunnel Creek.
It was closed for two years for Marlette Dam repairs, reopened in June 2026, and Nevada State Parks marked the full reopening of the Spooner backcountry on September 26, 2026 (Nevada Globe).
- How it works: park and rent at Flume Trail Bikes, take the shuttle to Spooner Lake, ride back to the shop.
- Shuttle: $22 a rider, several departures a day; two-rider minimum per booking. A shorter Highway 431 shuttle is also $22.
- Bikes on the shuttle: hardtails, full suspension and Class 1 e-bikes
- Season: June to November, weather permitting (shuttle page). Call for conditions in late fall.
E-bike rules on Tahoe paths and trails
Class 1 e-bikes are pedal-assist only, to 20 mph. Class 2 adds a throttle, also to 20 mph. Class 3 is pedal-assist to 28 mph. The rules depend on who manages the trail.
- Tahoe City trails (TCPUD): Class 1 and Class 2 permitted, 15 mph speed limit, bikes yield to pedestrians (rules of the trail).
- Tahoe East Shore Trail: the Tahoe Fund says pedal-assist e-bikes are welcome and scooters are not. Flume Trail Bikes says throttles are not allowed and rents Class 1 only.
- Forest Service trails in the Lake Tahoe Basin: in January 2026 the Forest Service approved 112 miles of trails for Class 1 e-bikes only, KOLO reported.
- Flume Trail: the shuttle takes Class 1 e-bikes. We could not find a Nevada State Parks page stating the rule, so ask the shop.
Rental e-cruisers are often Class 2 (Tahoe eBikes and Cyclepaths say so). That is fine on the Tahoe City trails, but keep the throttle off on the East Shore Trail.
Riding in October, November and winter
Fall riding is quieter, and the rental market shrinks fast.
- Closed for 2026: the Northstar bike park, West Shore Sports' Sunnyside and Sugar Pine Point stands, and (per its website) Truckee River Bikes.
- Reduced days: West Shore Sports Homewood (Friday to Monday) and evo (Thursday to Monday). Tahoe eBikes posts fall hours on its Google listing.
- Into November: Flume Trail Bikes, weather permitting.
- Year round: BlueZone and Village Ski Loft, which add ski rentals in winter.
- Winter riding: TCPUD clears 16 of its 23 trail miles after 3 inches of snow, as staff and conditions allow, and Vista Trail Bikes rents fat-tire bikes ($109 a day). See our Lake Tahoe in winter guide.
For an October or November trip, check the shop's hours the day before and reserve if you can.
Where to stay for biking
For the Tahoe City trails, Mammoth Haven Retreat (4 bedrooms, sleeps 9, hot tub) and Trailside Tahoe Townhouse (3 bedrooms, sleeps 6) are in Tahoe City. Most Tahoe City and Incline Village shops are pick-up only.

On Forest Service trails in the Lake Tahoe Basin, only Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes are approved, on 112 designated miles.

Several shops switch to ski rentals by late November, so call before you go.
Is the Flume Trail open in 2026?
Yes. The Flume Trail reopened in June 2026 after a two-year closure for Marlette Dam repairs, and Nevada State Parks marked the full reopening of the Spooner backcountry on September 26, 2026. Flume Trail Bikes in Incline Village rents mountain bikes and runs the shuttle to Spooner Lake for $22 a rider, with its season listed as June to November, weather permitting.
